  • Ask family, friends and co-workers for referrals.
  • Visit prospective shops and ask for a tour.
  • How are you greeted on the phone or at the shop? If you are not completely comfortable, keep looking.
  • Are the technicians I-Car and ASE Certified? Are their credentials prominently displayed?
  • Does the shop accept insurance quotes? If so you should contact the shop before contacting the insurance company.
  • You have the right to use any repair shop you choose. Insurance companies are not allowed to regulate choices.
  • If there is a significant difference between two estimates, verify that both cover the exact same repair.
  • Realize the area you live will most likely dictate labor rates and parts discounts.
  • Ask about warranty a reputable shop will stand behind it's repairs. Warranties can vary from 30 days to lifetime for as long as you own your car and cover labor, materials used and installation. Repair parts will be covered by the manufacturer warranty.

Important Facts About Replacement Parts:

OEM - "Original Equipment Manufacture" are made by the vehicle manufacturer or one of its certified suppliers.

Aftermarket - "Non-OEM" are made by various parts manufacturers and are not certified by the vehicle manufacturer. They may meet original factory specifications but are not guaranteed to fit your car.

Used Parts - are taken off other vehicles that have been previously wrecked or otherwise scrapped. On older models, sometimes this is the only option if OEM or aftermarket parts are no longer available.

All repair parts should equal in quality to the original ones installed when your vehicle was built.
